Renovate Fairplex Park & Ride Lot

CONTRACT #ML04042

In August 2007, the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works completed its improvements to the Fairplex Park and Ride Lot. The lot is located at 1810 Gillette Road in Pomona and provides commuters with two parking lots, one on 13 acres and the other on less than an acre, for a total of 500 parking spaces.

Improvements to the Park and Ride Lot include resurfacing and restriping of the pavement; installation of new curbs, vehicle stops and medians; new steel fencing to replace old chain link fencing; new lighting; bicycle lockers; new benches; and signage. New landscaping replaces non-native vegetation with native drought-tolerant vegetation. In addition to the physical improvements, security guard hours were extended another two hours per day (from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.)on weekdays and Saturdays.

Following completion of the improvements, lot usage increased by 27%. According to a survey conducted by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works the appearance, cleanliness and safety of a park and ride lot are major factors in a commuter's decision to rideshare or take public transportation.

The renovated Fairplex Park and Ride Lot achieves these desired factors by providing commuters with a safe and convenient place to park their vehicles when commuting to work by car pool or public transportation.

Construction was provided by C.S.Legacy Construction, Inc. The total project cost was $838,851 and funded by the MSRC and Prop A funds.
