The City of Moreno Valley constructed new class II and III bikeways to complete "missing links" in the existing City bicycle system. The new bicycle lanes and signage were implemented in conformance with the City's adopted Bicycle Transportation Plan. The new improvements provide direct commuter routes to local schools, employment centers, and shopping centers. The City awarded the Class II/III Bikeway Route Improvement construction contract to DBX, Inc. Work commenced on May 29, 2001 and was completed on August 5, 2001. The construction extended the existing Class III routes by installing new bicycle route signs along the various street designated as Class III bicycle routes on the City's Bicycle Transportation Plan. The project required street widening on the shoulder of Box Springs Road and Ironwood Avenue to accommodate the improved bike lanes.
