The buses operated in Orange County in the vicinity of San Juan Capistrano, Mission Viejo, and Laguna Hills. The buses will use the HOV lanes on the San Diego Freeway (I-405). The route will run from Southern Orange County to the South Coast Metro Employment Center. Since it is estimated that approximately 10,000 vehicle trips will be eliminated from the freeway during the first year of service, the benefit area is extensive.
Based upon 216,500 single occupant miles eliminated (21 miles, 40 people, 255 days of service), minus 21,500 annual miles using a clean fuel vehicle, equals 195,000 annual miles reduced, or 3.95 metric tons of pollutants reduced.
