SunLine Transit Agency is the primary transit service provider for the Coachella Valley and was an early adopter of low-emission alternative fuel technology. The MSRC's FY 2007/2008 On-Road Alternative Fuel Engine Program provided SunLine Transit Agency (SunLine) with an incentive of $20,775 per bus for the purchase of 15 heavy-duty buses equipped with the Cummins Westport ISL G dedicated natural gas engine, certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) cleaner than the 2010 NOx standard of 0.2 g/bhp-hr.

SunLine has accepted the 15 new CNG buses and placed each bus into regular fixed route service. Each bus was checked, cleaned and tested prior to being placed into revenue service and MSRC decals have been placed in a prominent location on each bus. In addition, the funded buses have not had any evidence of major problems or concerns during this reporting period.
The objective of this project was to replace fifteen (15)transit buses that had reached the end of their useful life with new alternative fuel buses equipped with the lowest-emitting engines commercially available.
The MSRC funded buses are equipped with Cummins Westport ISL gas 280 hp engine and will travel an average of 45,000 miles per year.
The project is 100% implemented.
