Foothill Transit purchased sixty six (66)Orion transit buses equipped with the Detroit Diesel Series 50G dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) engine, certified by the California Air Resources Board at the Optional Low-NOx emissions level. These vehicles were purchased in lieu of diesel-fueled buses. Foothill Transit originally projected that each bus would operate approximately 42,000 mile per year within the jurisdication of the South Coast AQMD. During the course of the project, it was determined that each bus actually accrues approximately 55,000 miles per year.
