McLaughlin Engineering and Mining Company re-powered six (6) Terex TS24B dual engine scrapers with new, certified Tier 2 diesel engines. Re-powering consists of removing the old unregulated diesel engine and replacing it with a modern, electronically controlled diesel engine. Re-powering is performed in lieu of rebuilding the existing engine; the emission reductions attributable to the use of Tier 2 engines as compared to unregulated diesel engines is significant. Each Terex scraper is equipped with two (2) engines; in this project, both engines were replaced. The new front engine is the Cummins QSX15; the rear engine is the QSC8.3.

This project significantly reduces both ozone precuror and particulate matter emissions; all areas of the South Coast AQMD benefit from reductions in ozone-forming NOx emissions.
The anticipated emission reductions attributable to the six scraper re-powers are as follows: Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx): 179 tons over the seven (7) year life of the engine Cost effectiveness: $1.87 per pound of NOx reduced
