Contractor restored the historic Southern Pacific Railroad Depot and the surrounding area. The depot component was restored in accordance with the Historical Preservation Guidelines for Southern California Railroad Stations. It was restored, in detail and profile, to the original historic state. The surrounding area was developed into plazas which link the Regional Transit Center to the Arts Colony, Antique District, restaurants, and various downtown establishments. The depot area was connected to the commercial areas by a bridge. A multi-level parking structure adjoins the transit area and the commercial areas. The capability of parking, traveling, and shopping without incurring additional vehicle travel reduces emissions.
