The contractor restored a former Southern Pacific train station to serve as a one-stop transit center, layover facility for Metropolitan Transit Authority and Whittier Transit buses, and a public meeting place for community groups. The wooden station had to be moved from its trackside location to a new site on Greenleaf Avenue. A new foundation was built for the station. The station, at its new site, was surrounded with a parking lot, bus layover area, and a plaza for passengers. The station was restored, exterior and interior, under the supervision of the Whittier Historical Society and the Society for Preservation of Train Stations. The station building has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978. Care was taken to replicate the woodwork, floors, windows, cabinetwork, walls and hardware to match the original installation.

The City of Whittier benefited from the re-establishment of the station. It was made the center of a transportation hub and configured to be citizen-friendly.
This is considered a facility project. No emissions were projected.
