Project Background

Contractor purchased five compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and a fueling station. The vehicles were deployed as follows: Two Ford Crown Victorias to the Police Department for use on Citizen Patrol and for use as staff cars for routine trips to off-site meetings; one 12-passenger Dodge van to the Police Department to shuttle restitution prisoners to and from work sites; one 9-passenger Dodge van to the Park and Recreation Department for transporting senior citizens and youth groups to activities; and one Chevrolet pick-up truck to the Waterway Utility Department. The three fueling stations were installed at the City Yard.

Project Implementation

The City of Colton was the primary beneficiary. Neighboring communities through which the vehicles travel benefit from the lack of emissions. The areas east of Colton benefit additionally as the prevailings winds which blow from west to east will not be adding pollutants to their air.

Annual emission reductions - 165 pounds. Total emission reductions - 1,650 pounds.
