Project Background

The Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) served as the lead agency for the Coachella Valley Regional Public Safety Bicycle Program. Forty eight (48) bicycles were purchased and distributed to 13 municipal agencies within the CVAG jurisdiction. The program was established to replace motor vehicle trips conducted by the agencies with zero-emission bicycle trips. In addition to the substantial health benefits, the CVAG has recorded VMT reductions of over 12,000 on-road miles and a fuel cost savings exceeding $5,000.

The estimated annual emissions reductions attributable to this project are 230.4 pounds of reactive organic gases, 155.8 pounds of oxides of nitrogen and 211.9 pounds of carbon monoxide.
