Sysco Food Services of Los Angeles purchased 25 new, liquefied natural gas (LNG)dual-fuel heavy-duty tractors, and installed a publicly-accessible LNG refueling station at the company's distribution facility located at 20701 Currier Road in the City of Walnut. The trucks are class 8 International 9100 tractors equipped with the Caterpillar C-12 dual-fuel LNG engine. The trucks were deployed during the first quarter of 2002. The engines were converted by Clean Air Parners and have an anticipated life of ten (10) years. The engines are rated at 410 horsepower and use a combination of approximately 15% natural gas and 15% diesel fuel. The engines are certified to the California Air Resources Board's Optional Low NOx standard. The LNG refueling station installed at Sysco's Walnut distribution location incorporates 16,400 gallons of fuel storage. The station was also constructed with additional concrete footings to allow the addition of a second 16,400 gallon storage vessel. All LNG station equipment conforms with Title 8, California Code of Regulations, NFPA, and all other local, state, and federal rules and codes.
