The City of Bellflower prepared a CNG vehicle bid specification detailing vehicle design and performance parameters as well as technical quality assurance and warranty requirements. A bid was issued and an award was made to the lowest responsible bidder.
The objective of the project was to replace six (6) gasoline powered pick-up trucks with six dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) pick-up trucks. The new CNG trucks will be medium-duty Ford F-150 pick-up trucks with 5.4 L, 225 hp CNG engines with a life expectancy of 10 years. Annual mileage is estimated at 6,500 miles.
The trucks were placed into regular City fleet service on January 12, 2005. No issues have been reported on the use of the vehicles.
