Project Background

The City of Moreno Valley is committed to the goal of cleaner air and a healthier environment through the reduction of air pollution from motor vehicles. To this end, the City desired to replace several of its diesel powered fleet vehicles, which had reached the end of their useful service life, with alternative fuel vehicles.

Project Implementation

The City of Moreno Valley prepared and issued bid packages for the vehicles per the Citys purchasing standards and guidelines. Awards were made to lowest responsible bidder.

Project Objectives

The objective of the project was to purchase two CNG vehicles including one medium-duty pick-up truck equipped with a dedicated CNG engine and an Elgin Eagle CNG street sweeper. Each vehicle has a life expectancy of five years and estimated annual mileage of 12,000 and 9,000 miles, respectively

The CNG street sweeper was delivered and placed into service in September 2005. The CNG pick-up was delivered and placed into service in June 2005. The Final Report includes a summary and recommendations as well as emissions benefits.
