Initially the City planned to purchase one medium-duty van and two heavy-duty vehicles. However, several issues arose while in the process of purchasing the heavy-duty vehicles including warranty issues and eligibility requirements. These issues ultimately led the City to seek modification to its contract for the purchase of three medium-duty vehicles and one heavy-duty vehicle.
The objective of this project is to purchase three medium-duty vehicles and one heavy-duty CNG vehicle including one (1) Ford E-250 commercial cargo van, two (2) pickup trucks, and one (1) Freightliner FL80 dump truck.
Although the project was successful, the City reports that the lack of available CNG vehicles and local dealers limited knowledge of CNG vehicles seriously impacted the project. Vehicles no longer come dedicated to CNG but instead are ordered alternative fuel ready and then must be converted to CNG adding time to the purchasing process.
All four CNG vehicles have been purchased and are in service. Public Works Department employees are pleased to have the vehicles for their use.
