The City of Claremont supports the goal of clean air and a healthier environment through the reduction of air pollution from motor vehicles. To this end, the City desired to replace two diesel powered vehicles that had reached the end of their useful life with alternative fuel vehicles.

The City of Claremont purchased the two vehicles from Wondries Ford as an addition or piggy back onto a bid the City of San Bernardino had in place. Wondries Ford agreed to sell, service and deliver the vehicles to Claremont under the Cooperative Purchase Provision of the City of San Bernardino.
The objective of the project was to replace two (2) diesel powered pick-up trucks scheduled for replacement with two dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) pick-up trucks. The new CNG trucks are medium-duty Ford F-150 pick-up trucks with dedicated 5.4L V-8, 225 hp CNG engines with a life expectancy of 8 years. Annual mileage is estimated at 10,000 miles.
The CNG trucks were delivered on February 10, 2005. Refueling will take place at the Citys maintenance center using its newly constructed natural gas refueling station. The two trucks represent the start of the Citys commitment to clean air vehicles.
