The City of Baldwin Park prepared and issued bid packages for the vehicles and stations per the Citys purchasing standards and guidelines.
The objective of this project was to purchase two (2) GM 2500 Silverado pick up trucks equipped with 5.7L, 275 hp compressed natural gas (CNG) engines. Each vehicle has a life expectancy of ten years and estimated annual mileage of 10,000 miles. In addition, the City was to construct two CNG fueling stations to support the vehicles. The Quad Type Fuelmaker fueling stations shall be located at the Citys maintenance facility.
The two CNG vehicles are in service. Initially, the vehicles utilized the fueling facilities at the City of West Covina until the Baldwin Park facilities were constructed. On March 7, 2006, the City of Baldwin Park received the Fire Departments final approval on the stations and they are now in service. Recommendations - The City encountered several issues during the construction of the stations which delayed its original schedule. Due to a requirement that the new gas line for the refueling station be installed by SDG&E, the City was subject to SDG&E scheduling. The time span from SDG&E approval of the plans to actual construction took several months. Upon installation of the station, the Fire Department was called to inspect the facility; however, the inspector was not familiar with CNG fueling facilities and had to go back to his supervisor for more information. This resulted in additional project delays. The Final Report includes a summary and recommendations as well as emissions benefits.
