The use of low-emission alternative fuel vehicles in lieu of conventional gasoline and diesel vehicles is an effective strategy for reducing air pollution from motor vehicles. The MSRC's Local Government Match Program assists local cities and counties in purchasing low-emission, clean fuel medium and heavy duty fleet vehicles.

The City prepared specifications and issued a notice for bids for the procurement of the vehicle, evaluated the bids and awarded a contract.
The objective of this project was to purchase a medium-duty compressed natural gas (CNG) pick-up truck to replace one of the City's conventional gasoline fueled fleet vehicles. Refueling of the vehicle will take place at one of the two CNG refueling stations located at the City's corporate yards. Use of alternative fuel vehicles helps the City of Lakewood meet the regional goals of cleaner air which benefits the citizens and improves the quality of life in the City of Lakewood.
A FORD F-150 pick-up truck, equipped with a 5.4L, 225 hp dedicated CNG engine, has been purchased by the City and placed into service. The vehicle will be used to support various functions within the public works department. No issues related to the use and maintenance of the vehicle has been reported.
