The City of Lawndale desires to share in the regional goals of cleaner air. The City operates a fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles with the goal to reduce vehicles emissions in its community.

The City purchased the vehicle through its bid and award process.
The project objective is to purchase a 2005 Chevrolet HD 2500 CNG powered truck. The CNG powered truck will be used as a service truck with the City. The City currently operates a public works fleet with 90% CNG clean air vehicles.
The City encountered problems in the acquisition of the new vehicle. The primary issue was the availability of natural gas powered vehicles. General Motors was the only manufacturer available to the City.
The truck is in service. It is housed at the City's Maintenance Yard and is fueled at the CNG fueling station also located at the maintenance yard. The vehicle averages 1,000 miles per month. The CNG vehicle replaces a gas powered truck (1987 GMC Sierra) that has been in service for twenty years.
