The City of Colton purchased the vehicles from Bob Wondries Ford in Alahambra.
The objective of the project was to purchase three (3) medium-duty Ford F-150 dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) pickup trucks with 5.4L, 195 hp, V-8 engines. Each vehicle has a life expectancy of 8 years averaging 10,000 miles per year. The vehicles will be refueled at a station in the Citys corporate yard. The pickups will be used in the parks and recreation department and for street maintenance.
Vehicles have been placed into service. During the acquisition of the vehicles, the City learned that Ford Motor Company is ceasing production of the desired vehicles and that availability is limited. The City reports that it was informed that Bob Wondries Ford is the only Ford dealership in California that has the particular vehicles in stock and felt fortunate to obtain the F 150 trucks. It intends to expand its CNG fueling station and purchase additional CNG vehicles.
