Ridestar Automated Survey

Project Background

The Ridestar Automated Survey provides employer clients the ability to register employees in the SCAG Regional Ridershare Database through the use of the Internet, the employer's Intranet, or electronic mail. Ridestar applies internet-based techology to the employee rideshare survey and Average Vehicle Ridership (AVR) form used to collect rideshare and AVR information at employer sites. This information is in turn used to distribute ridesharing and personalized commute information to employers and employees. The Ridestar program provides the capability to automatically distribute forms to client's employees and transmit and compile results electronically, significantly reducing the time, resources, and costs associated with a traditional paper process. Implementing the Ridestar Automated Survey has resulted in higher response rates, and improved the accuracy of the compiled data. During the course of the project, over 50 employers expressed interest in using Ridestar to conduct their next annual survey.

Project Implementation

Reductions in vehicle miles traveled directly reduce both automobile exhaust emissions and roadway congestion. Since this program is implemented on a regional basis, the entire South Coast AQMD benefits from its implementation.

Project Results Description

A higher survey response rate will most likely yield greater ridematching opportunities, resulting in reduced vehicle miles traveled withing the South Coast AQMD. This reduction in VMT equates to a reduction in vehicle exhaust emissions. At this time, SCAG is collecting data relative to the increase in ridematching resulting from implementing the automated process. Upon completion, a quantification of emission reductions resulting from this project will be performed.

Project Status Description

The final report includes a detailed discussion of the project's design and development, Beta-test results, control group results, software application installation instructions, and detailed project conclusions and recommendations.
